As I sit down to write this, it is currently 24 degrees here in Kentucky. We had freezing rain and then snow a few days back. It warmed up to a whopping 30 degrees and we had some melt off and then back to freezing. Now we have glare ice. The parking patio is so slick I put kitty litter on a small path that I use to get to the barn. That seems to help for now.
But wait there's more....
A lot more, unfortunately . Winter storm Uri is about to hit with a vengeance. So we have the chance of more ice and snow. I have been lucky enough so far and not lost power. I am hoping my luck continues. With temperatures dipping into the teens it is dangerously cold. I don't want to think of what I would have to do if I lost power. Frozen water buckets for the horses and not being able to keep water from freezing is not a pleasant thought. I would have to go to a hotel (hopefully there would be ones with backup generators). Traveling from there to the farm each day to feed would be dangerous with the freezing rain that is predicted. Seeing video from Oklahoma and Texas is scaring the crap out of me right now! Spring can't come soon enough for me. After this I'm hoping for a quiet spring.
